First a comic book, now a Broadway musical?
The 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain‘s death takes place on April 5, and if Courtney Love has her way, the Nirvana frontman’s life story could be headed for the stage. In an interview with NME, Love expressed interest in pushing for a musical devoted to her late husband if A-list writers, producers and directors got on board. She credits an outpouring of fan interest in such a project for spurring her attention.

Love asserts that “a Broadway musical is very likely to happen” if this team of collaborators can be commissioned. She continues:
“There would have to be a story, and a great story, one that hasn’t been told before. I would devote countless hours with an A-team to create a project that reflects Kurt in the most respectful but honest way possible, so that his story, his music and his legacy can be resurrected onstage for not only the world to see, but more importantly for our daughter to see. I know her father’s spirit will be on that stage, and sitting in that theater with her will be the most emotional experience of our lives.”
Love says both she and her 21-year old daughter Frances Bean Cobain (whom she had with Kurt around the time of their marriage) have pondered the proposition and thanks to “tons of Nirvana fan mail and social media posts,” it’s looking likely.

A Cobain musical would join Alanis Morissette‘s in-development Jagged Little Pill musical and Green Day’s American Idiot adaptation among alt-rock touchstones given the Great White Way treatment.
In other Love news, the Hole singer confirmed today in an interview with the Quietus that the band’s mid-’90s lineup has reunited to rehearse new material.
