This weekend marks the gathering of some of the biggest names in the social media sphere with the creative-focused Create + Cultivate conference, held in Culver City, Calif., March 21-22.
Launched in 2012, the series — which has taken place in cities including Montauk, Palm Springs and Portland, Ore., in years past — gathers like-minded entrepreneurs and visionaries in fields ranging from fashion to design, and engages them in a series of workshops, panels and seminars.
“Create + Cultivate started as a weekend getaway for creative freelancers down in Palm Springs at the Ace Hotel—I wanted to create a conference where people could leave feeling enlightened, entertained and inspired, and have some great cocktails and conversations along the way,” says creator Jaclyn Johnson, who is also the founder of Los Angeles-based digital marketing and events agency No Subject, and was part of the 2015 Forbes 30 Under 30 list. “I had done the conference circuit multiple times and always felt a little let down. I never truly connected with people, the environments always felt bit stale and I thought, ‘There has to be better way.'”
And now there is. Taking place over two days, this is the third event Create + Cultivate has hosted in Los Angeles, and by far the biggest to date. “It’s also our first Create + Cultivate focused primarily on a specific category: fashion and beauty,” explains Johnson, noting that down the line, events will also tackle topics including “food, health, wellness, DIY, design and entrepreneurship, with a focus on women in business.”
This weekend’s lineup will feature keynote speakers Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss and Glossier (“Seeing her transition from blog to business to beauty mogul has been amazing, and I am really excited to hear her story,” says Johnson), as well as the world’s most popular fashion blogger, Song of Style’s Aimee Song. Additional panelists and hosts include wardrobe stylist-turned-digital influencer Chriselle Lim, Gal Meets Glam founder Julia Engel, Kate Albrecht of lifestyle brand Mr. Kate, Instagram breakout star The Fat Jew, and Pret-a-Reporter’s own digital style director Erin Weinger.
