Getty ImagesCrocs have sometimes been accused of perpetrating crimes against fashion. Now one of the company’s co-founders is being accused of a much more serious crime, driving under the influence, and he’s got quite the creative excuse.
When confronted by police after allegedly being found intoxicated and sleeping in his car, 51-year-old George Boedecker Jr. claimed he had a designated driver, but she had abandoned the car, ABC News reports.

“Boedecker began to tell me that she was ‘really f—ing famous’ and a singer,” according to a Boulder, Colo., police report. “He then asked me if I knew who Taylor Swift was. I asked him where she went. Boedecker gestured casually towards a neighboring yard and said she was in Nashville.”
Swift, who has been dating Robert Kennedy Jr.’s son Conor, is not known to have any connection to Boedecker. According to the police report, a witness discovered Boedecker asleep in his vehicle, which was on the side of the road. After waking him, Boedecker reportedly changed his story several times before telling the witness he was dating Swift, whom he described as “batshit crazy.”
The arresting officer noted the shoe mogul appeared to be heavily intoxicated. When asked for his address, Boedecker responded, “I have 17 f—ing homes.”
According to the police report, Boedecker berated the officer and insisted he hadn’t been drinking and driving.
“Boedecker began to immediately complain that this was ridiculous and couldn’t believe we were doing this after all he had done for this city,” the police report read.
He was arrested and later released on a $500 bond. Results of a blood test police gave him to determine his blood-alcohol content could take weeks to be processed.

Crocs have a history of being mocked on Twitter, and that trend continued after the news of Boedecker’s arrest hit.

Crocs, meanwhile, issued a statement distancing itself from its co-founder.
“George Boedecker has not been a member of the company’s management team since 2005 and resigned from the board of directors in 2006,” spokeswoman Katy Lachky’s statement read. “The company has no further comment on this matter.”
