A Czech Republic version of Everybody Loves Raymond is in the works, Sony Pictures Television announced Friday in its first ever scripted format deal in the country.
The country’s public broadcaster Czech TV has ordered a full season of 12 30-minute episodes to be produced by the local production company Film Brigade. The show’s local title will be Everybody Loves Rudy.

“Everybody Loves Raymond is perfect for local adaptation with its universal, familiar and relatable themes,” Jeff Lerner, Sony’s evp, scripted programming, said in a press release. “Local versions of this great show have proved very popular with diverse audiences, and we look forward to adding the Czech Republic to our growing ‘family’ of Raymonds in the region.” Sony Pictures Television owns the international rights to Everybody Loves Raymond.
According to Jan Stern, a producer at Czech Television, Everybody Loves Raymond reflects a situation that is typical of many Czech families: parents being overprotective and overcaring and behaving as though their children’s households are in fact their own.
“We expect a positive response on the part of our viewers,” he added.

Everybody Loves Rudy goes into production this year and is set to premiere on the national free-to-air network in the fall of 2015.
So far, Everybody Loves Raymond has been adapted in the Middle East, Poland, Israel and Russia.
The sitcom’s Russian version, The Voronins, has been aired on the free-to-air network CTC since 2009. In 2011, after adapting all US scripts, SPT began developing original episodes to meet the network’s ongoing demand. So far, 316 episodes have been aired, and a new order for another 40 episodes was recently made.
