LONDON – New MTV UK dating series Ex on the Beach has become the highest-rated show launch ever on the Viacom network in the 16-34 target demo.
The first episode of the new series aired at 10 p.m. Tuesday night and attracted 250,000 viewers aged 16-34, according to MTV UK. That was 34 percent higher than the launch episode of MTV UK ratings hit Geordie Shore, a local version of Jersey Shore, in 2011 and 73 percent higher than the launch episode of hit show The Valleys in 2012.
During the time slot, MTV UK said it ranked second in all British TV homes, behind only BBC flagship network BBC One.
The show is about eight single men and women who go to a paradise location only for their exes to show up one by one. Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison is among the cast members of the show.
Said Kerry Taylor, senior vp and general manager for MTV UK: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the reaction to the first episode, both in terms of the record ratings amongst our target audience, but also the incredible buzz there has been around the show on social media.”
She added: “With a great cast and storylines, we’re confident the show will continue to produce great ratings for us and will prove to be a break-out hit for MTV both in the U.K. and internationally.”
Ex on the Beach is produced by Whizz Kid Entertainment and will air across MTV’s more than 60 channels across Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Australia.
