DC is pulling back the curtain on its plans to create a new podcast superhero universe.
DC chief creative officer Jim Lee revealed during Spotify’s Feb. 22 Stream On, a virtual live stream event, that the company is planning podcasts about Wonder Woman, Batman, Lois Lane, Catwoman, Riddler and Batgirl. “This is a long-term partnership between Warner Bros., DC and Spotify,” Lee said. “I think the fanbase is going to respond to this in an exciting way and embrace it as something new and novel.”
The projects are the result of an expansive podcast deal that Warner Bros. struck with Spotify last summer. At the time, the companies teased that iconic DC superheroes and supervillains would be the subjects of multiple podcasts for the audio giant.
The first project is the previously announced David Goyer series Batman Unburied, which will explore the darker side of Bruce Wayne’s psychology. It is expected to debut on Spotify later this year.
Warners is also working on a separate Batman podcast for HBO Max. The comedic series, Batman: The Audio Adventures, will star Jeffrey Wright.
The news about the DC podcasts came during a jam-packed 90-minute presentation from Spotify, in which the company also announced that it has signed a podcast deal with Joe and Anthony Russo to produce genre podcasts.
