Donald Trump wasted no time Sunday night again calling his hot mic comments that were leaked Friday “locker room talk.”
“They are just words, folks,” Trump said. “They are just words.”
CNN moderator Anderson Cooper asked the Republican presidential nominee about his words, unearthed from a 2005 conversation: “You described kissing women without consent, grabbing their genitals. That is sexual assault. You bragged that you have sexually assaulted women, do you understand that?”
Trump replied, “No I didn’t say that at all. I don’t think you understood what you said. This was locker room talk.” He then added, “I’m not proud of it. I apologized to my family, I apologized to the American people. Certainly I’m not proud of it but this is locker room talk.”
Trump then tried to pivot to ISIS saying there are more important topics to debate than his comments.
Since the tape’s release, a number of high-ranking Republicans have called for the billionaire businessman to bow out of the race. Trump has said that will not happen.
During a resurfaced 2005 conversation made during a hot mic conversation with Access Hollywood‘s then co-host Billy Bush, Trump said of Nancy O’Dell: “I moved on her, and I failed. I’ll admit it. … I did try and f— her. She was married.”
Trump also said of women in general: “When you’re a star, they let you do it. … Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Trump also brought up Bill Clinton’s accusers, some of whom he brought to the debate after holding a press conference 90 minutes ahead of the event.
Sunday’s debate, a town hall, is being held at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., with ABC’s Martha Raddatz and CNN’s Anderson Cooper as moderators.
