On hearing the news, SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris said, “I was deeply saddened to learn of Debbie Reynold’s passing. We have lost a unique talent and a national treasure. Coming so close to the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher, this is truly a double tragedy. Their imprint on our culture is profound and they both will live on. On behalf of the SAG-AFTRA membership, our hearts go out to their family and loved ones.”
Fellow actress and friend Carol Channing said of Reynolds: “She was beautiful and generous. It seems like only yesterday she was having lunch here at the house and we were discussing the possibility of working together in a new show. I have such fond memories of appearing with her here at the McCallum Theater in Palm Springs. So many laughs. My prayers go out to the family. She will be missed.”
Rip Taylor appeared with Reynolds onstage in Las Vegas for years, and of that time he said, “I was blessed to work with this remarkable woman for 45 almost 50 years. That makes for a very rare bond and unique relationship. She was generous to a fault, never caring who got the laugh from the audience. I Will always love her. I am absolutely devastated tonight!”
Ellen DeGeneres, Josh Gad, Al Roker, Dean Cain and more shared condolences for Reynolds:
