NEW YORK – Ricky Gervais took to his blog to further defend his performance as host of the Golden Globes on Sunday and said the targets of his edgy jokes weren’t offended.
The comic, 49, has faced criticism from a range of Hollywood stars for his comments, and there was talk that he may have been reprimanded backstage during the show, which he denied on his blog.
After previously issuing a statement, Gervais said on his blog: “Obviously the rumour that the organisers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish.”
The star added: “All the same conspiracy theories as last year too…’so and so was offended’…’hasn’t been invited back yet’…exactly the same as last time. ‘Paul McCartney was furious’…no he wasn’t. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.”

Allen and Hanks seemed to disapprove of Gervais’ comments when they appeared on-stage at the Globes, while other Hollywood names defended his performance after the show.
He reiterated his explanation for his long disappearance from the stage during the Globes telecast. “I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to,” Gervais said. He said he chose “the spots that I had the best gags for.”
Overall, “I enjoyed the Globes more this year,” Gervais wrote. “I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year.” Back then, Gervais made a joke about the film star’s drinking habits.
His blog post featured a photo of Gervais on a balcony in golden boxer shorts that Ellen DeGeneres had given him during a pre-Globes appearance on her show. “Back in New York,” Gervais also wrote on the blog. “From 80 degrees to 20 in a few hours. Still it was nice to get a bit of winter sun.”
