Peggy Albrecht Friendly House Los Angeles — billed as the first residential program in the country for women recovering from alcohol and drug abuse — has a date on Oct. 27 with a Woman of the Year: Demi Moore.
The actress and activist will take the stage inside the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills at the 29th annual awards luncheon, alongside fellow honorees including professional interventionist Dr. Louise Stanger (Excellence In Service Award), fitness evangelist and motivational coach Angela Davis (Shining Star Award) and philanthropists Barbara Starkey and Marjorie Walsh (Humanitarian Award). Actress and model Amber Valletta — who has been open about her own sober journey — will host the 800-person event.
In a statement, Moore said that she is proud to be on the event roster and join a list of previous honorees including Viola Davis, Katey Sagal, Joe Manganiello and Russell Brand. She added: “I believe in the work they are doing and the opportunity they are providing, especially for women who may not have the means for treatment. Peggy Albrecht is a pioneer and it is my honor to be supporting her vision of helping women find a new life in recovery.”
The upcoming awards luncheon will feature a special tribute to Albrecht, who died in April after serving as the organization’s leader for more than 30 years. According to the organization, Albrecht had first-hand knowledge of the disease after her own battle with alcoholism. She then devoted her life to the service of others, helping thousands of women recover through her work there. In 2013, her efforts were recognized when Friendly House was formally renamed Peggy Albrecht Friendly House.
