After announcing his first-ever fragrances — under the name Derek Lam 10 Crosby — last November, Derek Lam is now giving each scent its own flick. The designer has commissioned 10 short films to reflect each of the perfumes, as well as moments he’s inspired by outside of his 10 Crosby Street design studio.
Lam tapped Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish), co-directors and co-founders of the Supermarche film production company, as the project’s creative directors. The 10 movies, which were filmed in and around Crosby Street, stars Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein), Aya Cash (You’re The Worst), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton on Broadway) and Dev Hynes (recognized as musician Blood Orange).
“I’m thrilled to launch my Derek Lam 10 Crosby fragrance and film collaboration in New York — the city that inspired the fragrance collection and the film series,” says Lam. “It’s been a pleasure working with these talented filmmakers to bring my vision to life.”
One of the films — Afloat (titled after the scent with the same name) — is debuting exclusively on Pret-a-Reporter. Directed by Celia Rowlson-Hall, the short sees a painter (played by Jason Kittelberger), skater (Isa Tineo) and Xavier (Xavier Days) roaming around the city and showing off their most impressive lyrical dance moves (have you ever seen arms bend like that?) around New York.
