Designer L’Wren Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment Monday.
Scott, the girlfriend of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, was found hanging in her apartment at 200 11th Ave. by her assistant at around 10 a.m. ET.
A spokesperson for Jagger told The Hollywood Reporter that he is completely shocked and devastated by the news. The pair had been dating since 2001.
The rep also denied a report that Jagger and Scott had split up, stating that it is “100 percent not true.”
When reached by THR, a New York Police Department spokesman could not confirm the identity of the woman, but said she was 49 years old and had been found unconscious and unresponsive. The NYPD will not identify her until the family is notified.
He added that authorities believe it to be suicide, but the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
Last month, the designer canceled her London show due to production delays. Instead, Scott was planning to unveil her fall 2014 collection via social media earlier this month, but that apparently had been delayed. According to the AP, her company had a $5.9 million debt as of Dec. 31, 2012.
Scott, who appeared in THR‘s 25 Most Powerful Stylists in 2013, has styled A-listers including Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the late Elizabeth Taylor. She also coordinated Jagger’s wardrobe for The Rolling Stones’ 50 and Counting tour in 2012.
Scott was adopted by Mormon parents and raised in Roy, Utah, as Luann Bambrough. She decided to change her name when she launched her modeling career at age 17, after being discovered by famed fashion photographer Bruce Weber. Scott traveled to Paris, where she landed a booking for a Chanel couture show.
After she was found dead, a tweet was sent out from her personal account (it has since been deactivated):
