The style set has been buzzing about the great dresses and high-spirited looks by Spanish brand Delpozo for a couple of years. Kiernan Shipka was an early red-carpet fan, and during fashion week, New York’s young society girls have been known to line up around the block for their seat (which could have something to do with stylish 33-year-old company president Indre Rockefeller).
And while the label — which was founded by Jesus del Pozo in 1974 — has enjoyed a nice red-carpet run since its 2012 reinvention (Kiera Knightley, Cate Blanchett and Kate Mara are fans), when Julianne Moore stepped onto the Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala red carpet last Saturday in a Delpozo spring 2015 coral off-shoulder stunner she set off a new, fevered round of inquiry: “Who designs for Delpozo? And what is that line, anyway?”
Pret-a-Reporter is here answer those questions by way of Josep Font, the label’s Spanish-born creative director who studied architecture before going on to helm his own ready-to-wear and couture lines from 1991 on. The line can be found at the likes of Bergdorf Goodman and on Net-a-Porter, with architecturally pleated, embroidered gowns fetching as much as $11,000 a pop.
We caught up with Font ahead of Globes weekend to find out how Moore’s swoon-worthy Palm Springs look came to be.
How did your spring 2015 dress wind up on Julianne Moore for Palm Springs? She told us she was very aware of the brand. Do you know her New York-based stylist, Leslie Fremar?
I don’t know Leslie personally, but I think Julianne is very elegant and sophisticated. I was delighted to hear she was considering wearing a piece from our spring/summer 2015 collection.
What did you think of the look?
She was absolutely beautiful. She looked stunning.

What has the response been to the dress on her in Palm Springs?
This particular cocktail dress has been very well received. I think the vibrant color and distinctive silhouette make it both fresh and feminine.
Will this have an effect on sales and branding for Delpozo?
Honestly, the fact that Julianne has worn it is already very satisfying to me.
