Surprise! Woody Allen introduces Diane Keaton.
GettyDiane Keaton is standing by her Annie Hall director and longtime friend, Woody Allen, in the midst of renewed scrutiny into sexual abuse allegations made against him by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was a child.
“Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him,” the actress wrote Monday on Twitter. “It might be of interest to take a look at the 60 Minute interview from 1992 and see what you think.”
In the decades-old interview, which Keaton shared in her tweet, Allen denies Farrow’s claims, which have resurfaced in light of the #MeToo movement.
Keaton’s comments come after Alec Baldwin took to his own Twitter account on Sunday to compare Farrow to a character who lied about her rape in the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird. The news also comes as other stars who have worked with the director, such as Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, pledged to donate their salaries from their work on Allen films to charity in light of the re-emergence of sexual abuse claims.
Still others, including Colin Firth, Greta Gerwig and Mira Sorvino, have said they apologize for or regret working with Allen.
“I wouldn’t work with him again,” Firth, who starred in Allen’s 2013 film Magic in the Moonlight, told The Guardian on Jan. 18. Gerwig, who worked with Allen on 2012’s To Rome With Love, told The New York Times, “I can only speak for myself and what I’ve come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film.”
