When the fashion crowd found out Diane Kruger would be serving as a juror at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, the expectations (and anticipation) about her two-week wardrobe were higher than ever. Not surprisingly Kruger’s debut looks in Cannes delivered wow-worthy moments.
For the May 16 daytime jury photocall with Ewan McGregor (in Marni) and Jean-Paul Gaultier, Kruger chose a sexy burgundy lace-up dress by Versus from the designer’s fall collection. She paired it with Jimmy Choo’s $995 black dotted lace and nude mesh “Katima” sandal, minimal makeup with a subtle smoky eye and tousled waves.
Later, at the opening ceremony and director Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom premiere, the Inglorious Basterds actress donned Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. She channeled the elegance and glamour of Grace Kelly (the iconic blonde she greatly resembles) in her diaphanous aqua silk gown with a single-shoulder and diamond cluster earrings. Kruger’s red carpet look was dramatic, but not too over-the-top.
The 5′ 7″ actress, 35, who is close friends with Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld (she started her career as a runway model) and a regular in the front row at Paris’ couture shows, has an uncanny knack for dressing the part of both crowd-pleaser and risk-taker to keep fans and fashion critics happy. She stepped out pre-Cannes in Prada’s violet bohemian chiffon gown with floor-sweeping feathers at the Met Gala in New York.
