The Dress: A leopard bustier mini dress with fuchsia sequins from Halpern‘s spring 2018 collection.
The Wearer: Diane Kruger, who was styled by Micaela Erlanger.
The Event: At the In the Fade premiere in New York City on Monday.
Why It Matters: If there’s anyone who can pull off an animal-print dress dripping in sequins, it’s red carpet pro Diane Kruger, who manages to pull off just about everything. Rather than coming off as 1980s gaudy, the design is playfully updated with a single shoulder cut-out and partial ruffle hem. Star-favorite Stuart Weitzman sandals in black complete this bold look that would impress at any holiday party.
The genius behind the sparkly stunner? New York-born designer Michael Halpern, whose spring 2018 collection featured pantsuits and gowns in sequins and Swarovski crystals, with accents of snakeskin and leopard patterns. Halpern, who founded his London-based namesake brand in 2016, first caught our attention when Marion Cotillard wore his glamorous sequin gown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Since then, the designer’s star continues to rise. He made 2017’s Business of Fashion 500 list, an index that features professionals who are shaping the fashion industry, and on Monday night was honored with the British Emerging Talent for Womenswear award at the Fashion Awards in London. Clearly, he’s showing no signs of dimming.
Where to Buy: Kruger’s Halpern dress will be available at Bergdorf Goodman for $1,595.
