HBO is teaming with Law & Order mastermind Dick Wolf.
The premium cable network is developing a drama that revolves around a RAND-like think tank mission to prohibit the launch of a nuclear bomb.
Wolf would executive produce the project, set in Santa Monica in the 1950s, with Boardwalk Empire writer/supervising producer Howard Korder attached to pen the project. Allen Coulter is on board to direct.
The untitled Korder-Coulter-Wolf project would serve as a reunion for Wolf and Coulter, who previously worked together on Fox’s 1990s drama New York Undercover as well as NBC’s short-lived effort Law & Order: LA.
Coulter, who has directed several Boardwalk Empire episodes, has a long history with HBO, with credits including the cabler’s upcoming horseracing drama Luck, as well as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Sex and the City.

For his part, Wolf collaborated with HBO for his 2007 telepic, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. The Wolf-produced adaptation won six Emmys, including outstanding made for TV movie.
The news comes mere weeks after Wolf’s shingle sold a string of projects to NBC, including a firefighter drama from Michael Brandt and Derek Haas as well as untitled drama projects from The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and former Smallville executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.
Wolf is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham; Korder is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman; Coulter is with ICM and Jackoway Tyerman.
