NEW DELHI — Film and entertainment services company Reliance MediaWorks Ltd. has partnered with Los Angeles-based Digital Domain Productions to create visual effects and 3D stereo production services studios in Mumbai and London.
To be launched from August in phases, the studios will cater to motion pictures, television and commercial projects including stereo 3D conversion services.
While investment figures for the alliance were not given, RMW said in a statement that it will increase its existing 500-team strong facility in Mumbai by setting up an additional studio deploying a team of 400 VFX and 250 3D conversion artists available for projects allied with Digital Domain. In London, Digital Domain will co-locate a visual effects team within RMW’s U.K. facility.
The Mumbai and London studios will connect to Digital Domain’s L.A. facility through RMW’s fiber-optic network that can support seamless high-speed exchange of data.

By expanding Digital Domain’s presence worldwide, we are able to further strengthen our business capabilities in California and abroad.”
RMW has the scale, technological expertise and highly trained artists which can be combined with Digital Domain’s pedigree, proprietary tools and ability to create visual effects that challenge imagination, to offer comprehensive and seamless VFX and stereo 3D conversion solutions to global clients,” added RMW CEO Anil Arjun.
MW is an industry leader providing a variety of film and digital services including motion picture processing and DI, film restoration, 3D, digital mastering, visual effects and animation in addition to its recently launched film studios facility in Mumbai’s Film City complex.
Digital Domain recently completed visual effects work on Transformers: Dark of the Moon and its feature film work currently in production includes Real Steel, Jack the Giant Killer and 47 Ronin. Parent company Digital Domain Media Group recently acquired 2D-to-3D conversion company In-Three.
