Telemundo is having a mondo year.
The NBCUniversal-owned network, longstanding bridesmaid of the Spanish-language channels, has built a few landmark summer demo victories over eternal No. 1 Univision into a historic winning stretch.
Courtesy of a savvy soap strategy, Telemundo snapped Univision’s 32-year streak with a historic (and Rio Summer Olympics-aided) winning stretch that’s now put it atop the season rankings. October marked the third consecutive month that Telemundo ranked No. 1 between Monday and Friday, boasting growth as Univision has seen year-to-year dips. Compared to the same time period in 2015, Telemundo is up 12 percent.
October also ranked as the highest-rated month of Telemundo’s year, driven by primetime soaps Silvana Sin Lana, Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso and Señora Acero 3, La Coyote. It ranked as the No. 5 network for the month, topping even The CW.
