Capri, Hollywood International Festival will bestow top honors to 81-year-old director John Boorman. The Academy Award-nominated director has released a wide range of iconic films over the course of his career including Excaliber, The General, Deliverance and Hope and Glory. His latest film, Queen and Country, an autobiographical sequel to Hope and Glory, premiered at Cannes this year to exceptional reviews.
The director will be honored on Dec. 28, along with a screening of Queen and Country. He’ll also teach a masterclass at Capri’s Certosa di San Giacomo to discuss his legendary career with young filmmakers.
Boorman has said that Queen and Country will be his last film. He was also honored earlier this year in Italy at the Lucca Film Festival along with David Lynch.
”Boorman is a real legend of cinema,” said Pascal Vicedomini, founder of Capri, Hollywood. “His latest work tells, with renewed creativity and freshness, a story of a friendship set in the ‘50s, which has charmed critics and audience alike on the Croisette. We are therefore honored to be able to celebrate him at Capri Festival, a 19-year-old long event which has always proved its ability to discover new talents as well as to cherish such legendary artists as Boorman.”
Capri, Hollywood runs over from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2 on one of Italy’s most picturesque islands and will be chaired by Indian director Shekhar Kapur. The annual New Years festival is a key event during awards season. David O. Russell will be honored with the Italian-American Icon Award at the festival.
