Jonathan Levine, who directed comedies Warm Bodies and 50/50, has been offered the directing gig for Amy Schumer‘s next film, the untitled comedy set up at Fox.
Schumer is hot off the success of her comedy Trainwreck, which she starred in and wrote. The Universal film earned $30 million in its North American debut and has earned $111.9 million worldwide to date.
The new Fox comedy centers on a mother and daughter who find themselves kidnapped while on vacation in Brazil. Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, reworked an initial script by The Heat‘s Katie Dippold, putting the daughter character in Schumer’s distinctive voice. (Dippold, who will serve as an exec producer, used her relationship with her mother as inspiration for the initial script.)
Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Paul Feig and Jessie Henderson are producing the film.
Talks are very early on, and no deal has been made yet with Levine.
In July, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Levine was in the running to get the gig to direct Schumer’s next movie. Levine’s next film, the Christmas-themed comedy The Night Before, hits theaters on Nov. 25. It stars Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie as three friends who reunite for their annual tradition of Christmas Eve debauchery.
Levine previously directed Gordon-Levitt and Rogen in 50/50 and helmed Warm Bodies and The Wackness. He’s repped by CAA and Weinstraub Tobin.
