TORONTO – Imax is going back into space, this time with Walt Disney Studios.
Launching its first joint production with Imax, Disney is backing the latest 3D space film by veteran filmmaker Toni Myers (Space Station 3D, Hubble 3D), which is still untitled.
The Disney-Imax project will use high-resolution photography and videography to offer a bird’s eye view of a fast-changing Earth from space, ahead of a planned 2015 release.

NASA will once again partner on the Imax space film production.
Disney’s co-producer agreement with Imax follows the release of studio titles on the giant screen platform like Fantasia 2000 and more recently Oz The Great and Powerful.
“Disney has always been a leader in creating immersive fantasy worlds for audiences, but we know there’s no more immersive world than the real one,” said Alan Bergman, president of Walt Disney Studios, in a statement Wednesday.
“Toni Myers and her team have given us films that have been educating, delighting and astonishing Imax audiences for many years, and we look forward to continuing the journey with this latest spectacle,” Greg Foster, chairman and president of Imax Entertainment, said in his own statement.
