Disney is launching a Sofia the First storybook to accompany its upcoming animated movie, which features Modern Family’s Ariel Winter in the title role.
Sofia, who is Disney’s first little-girl princess, will debut in an illustrated storybook from Disney Publishing on Tuesday. The book, written by Catherine Hapka with illustrations by Grace Lee, will be available from Disney Press, an imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide, as a book and e-book at retailers nationwide.
Disney also is set to launch a micro-site Nov. 2 at DisneyJunior.com/Sofia that will feature a downloadable premiere party kit for Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess including invitations, recipe ideas and activity booklets.
Additionally, a digital EP album from Walt Disney Records will be available on iTunes and other retailers starting Nov. 13.
The music-filled movie, set in the storybook world of Enchancia, introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king and she becomes a princess, Sofia the First. Disney’s Cinderella makes an appearance in the movie to offer Sofia some words of wisdom as she learns to navigate the life of royalty.
Sara Ramirez, Wayne Brady and Tim Gunn also voice roles in the movie, aimed at kids ages 2-7. It will premiere at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, on Disney Channel and at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, on sister channel Disney Junior. A Sofia the First television series will premiere in early 2013.
Winter will also perform in a music video of the song “Rise and Shine,” debuting during the premiere telecast.
