Veronica Roth, the author of the popular YA Divergent series, announced on her website she is writing four ebook shorts set in the novel’s universe.
The first, The Transfer, will arrive Sept. 24. Titles and publication dates for the other three books have not been announced.

The Divergent series is set in a futuristic world where people are divided into groups (called factions) that each focus on a certain value, ranging from peace to bravery and intelligence. When an individual turns 16, he takes a test that determines which faction he is best suited for, and then must decide whether to stay with the faction of his parents, or leave to join another group and never see his family again.
The lead character in the books, named Beatrice (aka Tris), is a young woman who decides to leave her family’s group and transfer to the Dauntless, who focus on bravery. She is a rare individual because when she took the test, she discovered that she could fit into more than one faction, making her a Divergent, viewed as a risk to society.
The new e-stories will focus on Four, who is Tris’ love interest after she transfers to Dauntless.
“Over time it became clear to me that the character I was most interested in exploring further was Four,” Roth wrote in her blog announcing the shorts.
“Two reasons: first, I know his perspective is the one a lot of you are interested in reading,” she adds. “Second, I was excited by the idea of expanding my own understanding of him.”
Roth has released the first two books in the Divergent series. The third, Allegiant, is expected to be released on October 22 in the U.S.
Summit Entertainment is producing a film adaptation of Divergent, which will be directed by Neil Burger and star Shailene Woodley and Theo James. It’s slated to hit theaters on March 21, 2014.
