LONDON — The BBC’s new time lord, Peter Capaldi, began a 12-day world tour Thursday, ahead of the upcoming eighth season of Doctor Who.
Capaldi was joined by fellow castmember Jenna Coleman and showrunner Steven Moffat in the Welsh capital of Cardiff before heading to London for another screening of the opening episode, “Deep Breath,” and later flying to South Korea to kick off the international leg of the tour. Other stops include Sydney, New York and Mexico City before concluding in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 18.

“He’s a brand new, slightly shocking, extremely funny, charismatic doctor, and it’s that wonderful thing — he’s very, very different and yet he’s exactly the same,” Moffat told BBC Radio Wales at the event in Cardiff.
“Deep Breath,” set in 19th century London and directed by Ben Wheatley, is due to air on BBC One Aug. 23. It will be screened at midnight at cinemas across the U.S. the same day, according to a deal between BBC America and Fathom Events.
