A tiny teaser for Alexander Payne’s comedy Downsizing previews the premise’s self-shrinking situation.
The Paramount film stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig as a husband and wife who decide to shrink themselves in order to help save the planet’s resources, and also to live a luxury-lifestyle for a small-sized salary. Christoph Waltz, Laura Dern, Jason Sudeikis, Hong Chau, Neil Patrick Harris, Niecy Nash and Margo Martindale are also among the cast of the film, which blends sci-fi with social satire.
The teaser, which shares a glimpse of the setup that shrinks participants to a mere five inches, dropped shortly after the film opened the Venice Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter‘s rave review called it “a wonderfully outsized movie for these times if there ever was one…. Captivating, funny and possessed of a surprise-filled zigzag structure that makes it impossible to anticipate where it’s headed, this is a deeply humane film that, like the best Hollywood classics, feels both entirely of its moment and timeless. It was a risky roll of the dice, but one that hits the creative jackpot.”
Downsizing hits theaters Dec. 22.
