“The movie is definitely going to shine a light on the problem,” Dr. Dre told The Hollywood Reporter about upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. “Especially because of all the situations that are happening, with Mike Brown in Ferguson, Ezell Ford here in Los Angeles,” the rapper continued, “it’s definitely going to keep the situation in people’s minds and make sure that everybody out there understands that this is still a problem that’s happening today.”
N.W.A is famous for their protest song, “F— tha Police,” a social commentary on police brutality in predominantly black neighborhoods. The song itself remains massively influential in hip-hop music, and upon its 1988 release, sparked a censorship movement in the music and art worlds.
