Perhaps it was the champagne, but when the queens of television drama arrived late morning at Jack Studios in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, they couldn’t have been more relaxed.
During an hour-long conversation, Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story: Coven), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Keri Russell (The Americans), Jessica Pare (Mad Men), Claire Danes (Homeland) and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) came clean on sex scenes, coveting roles and lactating on George Clooney.
Gathering six actresses with demanding schedules who live on opposite sides of the country (and even outside of it; Farmiga resides in Vancouver, Canada) can be a challenging task. But with half of the women living in New York, it only made sense to head to the East Coast.
Read the actresses’ THR cover story here.
We’ve already released some of the conversation’s most explosive moments: Danes on pregnant love scenes; Margulies on nearly passing on The Good Wife and The Sopranos; Farmiga on pushing to land Paulson’s 12 Years a Slave role; and all six on what they’d do if they quit acting tomorrow. Here we unveil the full, uncensored conversation.
Though Pare arrived by herself on a red eye after shooting the second half of the final season of Mad Men, it was Danes who claimed to suffer from insomnia – understandable, as the Homeland star is busy getting ready to move to South Africa, where she’ll film her next season as CIA agent Carrie Mathison.

As they rummaged through the multitude of clothing and shoe options with their publicists, Margulies and Danes swapped stories about their spouses (Margulies met her lawyer husband at a friend’s birthday party), shared their favorite places to eat in New York and bonded over the stress of finding a good nanny.
Giddy about wrapping up this season of The Good Wife, Margulies joked that she “got out of prison” and gets to play for the next few months. Russell, too, headed to a friend’s wedding after the roundtable, divulged her plans to dance on tables later that night, just like she used to after coming off Felicity.

THR‘s roundtable series is part of the leadup to Emmys season, and has already included a discussion with TV’s hottest drama showrunners. Watch the uncensored drama showrunners roundtable here.
