Netflix have commissioned a series adaptation of Tonke Dragt’s Dutch children’s classic The Letter for the King.
The series, set to begin shooting this autumn in New Zealand, will be produced by London based FilmWave for the streaming giant.
First published in 1962, The Letter for the King is a medieval adventure novel set in a fantasy feudal world of three kingdoms, two of which are threatened by the third. The story follows 16-year-old squire Tiuri in his journey to become a knight and deliver a crucial letter to the leader of the neighboring kingdom.
The Letter for the King has been translated into more than 25 languages. It was translated into English in 2014 and published by Pushkin Press in the U.K..
Will Davies (How to Train Your Dragon) will adapt the series for Netflix, with Netherlands-born Paul Trijbits (Saving Mr. Banks) of FilmWave producing.
Netflix will bow the series on its service worldwide.
