After nine years at E!, the network’s president of programming Lisa Berger is stepping down.
The move comes as the NBCUniversal-owned network looks to evolve its recently refreshed brand, pushing the net best known for its Kardashian fare into scripted programming under new corporate boss Bonnie Hammer. The executive team has yet to give a pilot order to anything on E!’s varied development slate, though E! brass has said in the past that it plans to have one or possibly two scripted series on its schedule this year. Through the network, Berger declined to comment on her next venture, and E! has yet to make any decisions on her replacement.

“My time at E! has been an amazing experience both professionally and personally, and it is hard to sum up nearly a decade of show launches, milestone moments and incredible friendships,” Berger said in a statement. “I am extremely proud of all of our accomplishments taking the network to record heights and forever grateful to my team whose talent and dedication knows no bounds. Although it won’t be easy for me to say goodbye, I look forward to sharing the news of my next challenge in the months ahead.”
Added E! president Suzanne Kolb: “Lisa’s talent and creative vision have been invaluable to the success of E! over the past nine years. Her passion and commitment to her work and her team are unparalleled, and she will be dearly missed. I look forward to celebrating her many future accomplishments.”

In her tenure at E!, Berger, a well-liked executive with a reputation for her strong relationships with talent, has been integral to such buzzworthy hits as Keeping Up With the Kardashians and its spinoffs, The Girl Next Door and late-night effort Chelsea Lately. Though there was speculation that Berger might get the gig as E!’s president following Ted Herbert’s departure in 2011, the position ultimately went to the network’s longtime marketing chief, Kolb.
Prior to E!, Berger served for four years as executive vp creative affairs for Fox TV Studios, where she was instrumental in bringing The Shield to FX. Before that, Berger spent 12 years at MTV Networks, where she developed series including Singled Out, The Jenny McCarthy Show and the long-running Road Rules.
