Lego Lord of the Rings - H 2012
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) is keeping J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth front and center at its booth at E3 2012, just as anticipation builds for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey movie. WBIE has two new games shipping this fall set in the fantasy universe of the bestselling books and Hollywood adaptations of those works.
Guardians of Middle-earth is a new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game developed by Monolith Productions, set to be released in fall 2012 exclusively for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network. The console-based MOBA offers more than 20 iconic guardians including Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum, Thrain and many more for players to control in player vs. player (PVP) arena battles. Gamers will have the ability to connect with other players via an in-game voice communication system, as well as access to a comprehensive online stat and leader board system where they can track friends’ victories and defeats, and more.
Gamers will be able to explore a very different Middle-earth in developer TT Games’s LEGO The Lord of the Rings, the latest addition to the bestselling LEGO game series. The new game is based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy and follows the original storylines of Jackson’s three films. The game will be available on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Vita.
“We are huge aficionados of The Lord of the Rings franchise and are incredibly excited to put our special LEGO family-friendly touch on this classic fantasy adventure,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “We’ve taken what fans are familiar with and love about The Lord of the Rings films and combined it with the playful LEGO style, which makes the story and gameplay accessible to gamers of all ages.”
LEGO The Lord of the Rings takes players along on the adventures of Frodo Baggins and his unlikely fellowship as they set out on a perilous journey to destroy The One Ring and save Middle-earth. Kids, tweens, teens and parents can traverse the Misty Mountains, explore the Mines of Moria, knock on the Black Gate of Mordor, and partake in epic battles with Orcs, Uruk-hai, the Balrog and other fearsome foes while harnessing the humor and imagination of LEGO gameplay to solve puzzles and explore Middle-earth.
Players will take on the form of their favorite members of the fellowship – Frodo the Hobbit, Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin – as they relive the most momentous events from the films.
Although these games aren’t based on The Hobbit movies, given the sheer number of games that have been released around Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, games based on The Hobbit are expected at some point.
