Tim Withby/Getty ImagesEddie Marsan has joined Patrick Wilson and Jessica Biel in the untitled adaptation of author Patricia Highsmith‘s psychological thriller The Blunderer.
Andy Goddard is directing the film, which began production last week in Cincinnati. Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa will produce with Ted Hope and Sierra Pictures, which is financing the along with 120dB Films and Electric Shadow.
The story centers on Walter Stackhouse (Wilson), a successful architect in early 1960s New York married to a beautiful woman (Biel), whose fascination with an unsolved murder leads him to cross paths with a woman he lusts after, a devious killer and an overambitious detective. Haley Bennett co-stars in the role of the other woman, replacing Imogen Poots.

Susan Boyd wrote the script based on the 1954 novel by Highsmith, whose books are the source material for films including Alfred Hitchcock‘s Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Marsan currently stars in Showtime’s Ray Donovan, playing Ray’s (Liev Schreiber) troubled brother. His recent film credits include the first and second Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. and The World’s End opposite Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. He will appear opposite Will Smith in Peter Landesman‘s upcoming NFL concussion drama as well as do voice work in Warner Bros.’ Jungle Book: Origins.
He is represented by UTA and the U.K.’s Markham, Froggatt and Irwin.
CAA is overseeing the domestic sale of the film, and Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales. It has sold the project in more than 25 territories, with Sony Pictures Worldwide to distribute in 20 of them, including the U.K. and Canada.
