Just days after Eddie Redmayne won the best actor Oscar for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, the British actor is undergoing another transformation for his latest film The Danish Girl.
In the first look at Redmayne’s portrayal of transgender artist Lili Elbe in the film, Working Title tweeted the below photo of Redmayne in character.
Born as Einar Wegener, the Danish artist was the first person to undergo a sex-change operation. The film focuses on the love story between Wegener and wife Gerda Gottlieb as the artist makes a pioneering journey in the 1920s. Alicia Vikander is playing Gerda.
The film, being directed by The King’s Speech helmer Tom Hooper, is currently in production. Hooper also directed Redmayne in Les Miserables.
The film is based on the 2001 novel by David Ebershoff. Lucinda Coxon wrote the screenplay.
