Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco is just as mean to reality stars as Reese Witherspoon was at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. Witherspoon said, “If you take naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people!” In the same scolding tone, Falco told Vulture she’s “not a big fan” of reality TV. “Like, forgive me, I don’t know if you’re friends with her — but who the hell is Kim Kardashian? Like, who are these people and why are they famous and why are they advertising things and being asked their opinions about things? I just don’t understand what these people did to be in a position of having everyone ask their opinions about stuff. I mean, if there’s something about her personality or something that she’s accomplished or her philosophy on something — but beyond that I don’t understand what’s happening. It’s actually frightening.”
You’d think Falco would be in a kindhearted mood, even when it comes to the reality stars she despises. She’s neck and neck with Ellen Barkin to win the Tony Award for featured actress next week, and she might beat Laura Linney for the comedy actress Emmy. Maybe she’s peeved because her Emmy win for Nurse Jackie last year makes her less likely to win again. Even when she won three Emmys when The Sopranos reigned supreme, she only won every other year (1999-2003), not consecutively, which is a fairly rare feat. Even three-time Emmy winner Linney never did it. On the other hand, Linney has never lost an Emmy race, either. So Falco’s entitled to be in a bad mood. But that’s no reason to take out your frustrations by kicking as big a target as Kim Kardashian’s derriere.
