Well into the second night of the Electric Daisy Carnival, heavy winds picked up in Las Vegas and brought the three-day event to a halt just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning, disappointing many fans who were just arriving and got turned away.
Weather reports indicated winds of over 30 mph as a cold front moved south through the Las Vegas Valley. An official statement from Insomniac indicated that fans’ safety was being assessed as the high winds posed a possible threat.
Carnival rides were shut down and partygoers were asked to take shelter in the grandstands to get them as far away as possible from the massive stages.

“Fan safety is Insomniac’s highest priority. We cannot control Mother Nature and we are taking every precaution while high winds continue, and have cleared the stage areas temporarily as a preventative measure,” said Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac.
Just before 3 a.m. a tweet was sent out by event organizer Insomniac Events making it clear that primary stages would not reopen, but the smaller stages would provide entertainment for approximately 90,000 fans who were stuck at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and not able to leave immediately.

Final word on the remaining day of the event came during the overnight hours as Inosmniac released a statement announcing that the “Electric Daisy Carnival is set to continue as scheduled on Sunday, June 10, 2012, with gates opening at 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.”
Fortunately for the thousands gathered, many artists who performed on Friday night have sets scheduled on the strip including Afrojack at Tryst in The Wynn and Kaskade at Marquee Nightclub in The Cosmopolitan.
