Netflix has ordered a second season of Elite, a Spanish-language teen crime series.
The second season will launch on Netflix worldwide in 2019. Spain’s Zeta Audiovisual, which produced the first season, is on board for the second, eight-episode series.
Created by Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona, the first season of Elite premiered on Netflix this month.
The show is set at Las Encinas, an exclusive private school, home to the children of Spain’s elite, which is forced to take in three working-class kids after their academy is destroyed by an earthquake. The culture clash between the haves and have-nots finally results in a brutal murder. But it’s not clear who is behind the crime.
Netflix declined to give details about season two of the show.
Elite is part of a new push by Netflix into Spanish-language series, following the company’s establishing a production hub in Spain earlier this year. Netflix also produces local-language series such as Money Heist and Cable Girls in Spain.
The streaming giant is investing heavily in local production in Europe, in part to meet new quotas that will require at least 30 percent of its online catalog in Europe to be European-made.
