Elizabeth Warren has been declared the winner in Massachusetts’ Senate race, defeating incumbent Republican Scott Brown.
LIVE: Follow the Presidential Election
A favorite of progressives, Warren, a consumer advocate and Harvard professor, helped found the Obama administration’s Consumer Financial Protection Board in the wake of the economic collapse of 2008. She served as special adviser to President Obama, helping to set up the CFPB and then ran for the Senate seat once held by Ted Kennedy.
Warren’s cause was championed by many in Hollywood, including Massachusetts natives Ben Affleck and Sarah Silverman. The pair cut a video for the Progressive Congressional Change Committee promoting Warren’s cause this past weekend. Matt Damon recorded a robo-call for her this past weekend, as well.
The industry earlier this year held a star-studded fund-raiser for her campaign at J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot studios; Barbra Streisand, Ron Howard and Will Ferrell were among the big names in attendance.
