Ben Pruchnie/Getty ImagesFor Elton John’s first book, the British musician is set to pen a personal account of the AIDS crisis.
Titled Love is the Cure: Ending the Global Aids Epidemic, John’s book will include stories and memories of his own friends whose lives were claimed by AIDS-related illnesses, including Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

The book will be published in the U.K. via Britain’s Hodder & Stoughton in July along with an audio book read by John himself. Little, Brown will publish in the U.S.
In a statement, John said that the book will ask why more is not being done to cure the disease. He said that AIDS “is a disease that must be cured not by a miraculous vaccine, but by changing hearts and minds, through a collective effort to break down social barriers.”

Proceeds of the book sales will benefit the Elton John’s AIDS Foundation.
On the music scene, the six-time Grammy award winner is in the running for another trophy. His duet with Lady Gaga titled “Hello, Hello” — from the Gnomeo & Juliet soundtrack – has been named on the long list for the Academy Awards Best Song prize. John took home the same award for The Lion King’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in 1994.
