The Rocket Man will become a man of letters with the release of his first memoir, set to be published in 2019.
“I’m not prone to being a nostalgic person,” Sir Elton said in a statement. “I’m often accused of only looking forward to my next gig or creative project. It’s come as quite a surprise how cathartic I am finding the process of writing my memoirs. As I look back, I realize what a crazy life I have had the extreme privilege of living.”
The New York Times reports that Henry Holt & Co., a division of Macmillan, won the rights to the book over two other publishers.
John is working with The Guardian critic Alexis Petridis on the autobiography, which follows a string of acclaimed memoirs from rock icons over the last decade. After the release of Bob Dylan’s critically acclaimed and commercially successful Chronicles: Volume One, memoirs have been written by everyone from Keith Richards to Patti Smith to Morrissey.
