Endeavor Content is developing an adaptation of the Cinderella reimagining Stepsister as a feature with author Jennifer Donnelly.
The upcoming young adult book, which will be published by Scholastic in fall 2019, is an alternative fairy tale told from the point-of-view of one of Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, who examines the path she’s been pushed toward, tries to make amends and redefines strength and beauty on her own terms.
Stepsister will be published by Hot Key in the U.K.
“I am absolutely thrilled to bring Stepsister to the big screen alongside Endeavor Content,” said Donnelly, who is repped by WME and Writer’s House. “They supported my vision and shared my passion and enthusiasm for a story of empowerment, one in which the ugly stepsister — not the beautiful heroine — can achieve her happily ever after.”
Donnelly’s previous work includes Lost in a Book, which spent nearly 20 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and was set in the world of another storybook classic, Beauty and the Beast.
Last week, Endeavor Content — the recently branded merger of WME Global and IMG entertainment finance and sales — announced the development of a feature film adaptation of David Barclay Moore’s The Stars Beneath Our Feet, which will serve as the directorial debut for Michael B. Jordan.
