TORONTO – The Toronto International Film Festival has released its top 10 Canadian film list of 2013, led by Denis Villeneuve‘s Enemy and Louise Archambault‘s Gabrielle, Canada’s contender for the best foreign-language Oscar.
Enemy, one of two Villeneuve films that star Jake Gyllenhaal, debuted in Toronto in September, with the other being Warner Bros.’ Prisoners.
The festival also chose for its annual list Michael Dowse‘s romantic comedy The F Word, which stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan, Asphalt Watches by Shayne Ehman and Seth Scriver, and Xavier Dolan‘s Tom at the Farm, all of which played in Toronto.
The Toronto festival also ranked two documentaries, Alan Zweig‘s When Jews Were Funny and Watermark by Jennifer Baichwal and Edward Burtynsky, along with Jeff Barnaby‘s Rhymes for Young Ghouls, Chloe Robichaud‘s Sarah Prefers to Run and Denis Cote‘s Vic + Flo Saw a Bear as the year’s best.
The 10 best Canadian films of 2013 will screen over 10 days at Bell Lightbox in Toronto in January.
