TORONTO – Entertainment One has clinched a deal first negotiated at Berlin to acquire the North American rights to the Finnish Nazis-from-space film Iron Sky.
The Canadian producer first started talking to the Stealth Media Group about the project from Finnish director Timo Vuorensola as Iron Sky had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.
Entertainment One will debut the Blind Spot Pictures movie in the U.S. this coming weekend as part of the Midnighters sidebar at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin.
The Finnish project started online with crowdsourced financing, and enlisted Internet fans at each stage of production to, for example, help design the uniforms of the movie’s space Nazis.
Iron Sky stars Julia Dietze, Gotz Otto, Christopher Kirby and Udo Kier.
“Iron Sky is the Citizen Kane of Nazis-in-Space movies, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it to North American audiences, where its dedicated and rabid fan base is already demanding the film” Dylan Wiley, VP of theatrical marketing and distribution at Entertianment One Films U.S., said Thursday in a statement.
