Ray Chelstowski, the publisher of Time Inc.’s Entertainment Weekly, has abruptly resigned from the magazine.
The staff was informed Friday morning in a short email from president and group publisher Paul Caine.
“I am writing with news of a publisher change. Ray Chelstowski has informed me of his decision to leave EW. Over the last two years, Ray and his team have turned EW’s business around, ensuring that today, it is stronger than ever. During this transition, I am counting on all of you and your management team to continue your great success. I will be communicating a plan shortly, and my door is open should you have any thoughts or suggestions. My thanks to Ray for his contributions, and I wish him well in the future.”
A Time Inc. spokesperson would not comment to The Hollywood Reporter beyond Caine’s staff announcement.
There was no explanation offered for Chelstowski’s resignation. He has been at Entertainment Weekly for more than a decade. He was named publisher of the magazine in 2009, where he had worked as national sales director for nine years.
He was also publisher of Rolling Stone and did a brief stint at luxury magazine Prestige New York before being tapped to run EW.
