Ellin told TV Guide that he’s pursuing Sheen for a role on the final season of his HBO comedy series.
“I called his manager and was told maybe I’d get him,” he said. “But I’m still waiting for Charlie to call me back. I’d come up with something good.”
As for those rumors that Entourage star Jeremy Piven is on the list of actors to replace Sheen on Men, Ellin said the HBO show will wrap in mid-June, which means Piven’s schedule would be freed up in time to join Men if that’s the direction CBS and Warner Bros. TV choose to go.
“It would be feasible,” Ellin said. “They’d be lucky to have him.”
Sheen was fired from Men earlier this year. As The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported, Men is getting a reboot for its upcoming ninth season. (Neither CBS nor Warner Bros. has said whether Men will return, but industry speculation is that the show will almost certainly be back.)
The final season of Entourage, which returns July 24, will continue the story line surrounding Johnny Drama’s (Kevin Dillon) animated series Johnny Bananas. Ellin hired animators from The Simpsons and Family Guy to work on the show-within-a-show, of which viewers will see snippets.
Ellin is hoping to spin off the cartoon after Entourage ends.
“I’d like to [launch] a full show of it after we finish this last season,” he said.
