This year’s guests of honor at the New York Film Festival are Ethan Hawke and Richard Gere, The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced Tuesday.
The actors will each be hosted as part of the fest’s “An Evening With…” series. The evening will include an intimate dinner at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center and a conversation with fest director Kent Jones. Both events will benefit The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
Hawke’s tribute will take place on Sept. 30. Gere’s honor is set for Oct. 8, presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
At the fest, Hawke directed the Spotlight on Documentary title Seymour: An Introduction, which zooms in on Seymour Bernstein, a long-ago piano prodigy who, at 50, retired from public performing in order to concentrate exclusively on his great gift, teaching. Gere stars in the Main Slate selection Time Out of Mind from director Oren Moverman, in which he plays a New York City homeless man estranged from his daughter.
“We are very excited to be honoring two men that have built very successful careers enjoying both critical and box-office success, yet — as evidenced by their films at this year’s New York Film Festival — are still exploring as artists and doing some of their best work yet,” said FSLC’s executive director Lesli Klainberg in a statement.
Past “An Evening With…” honorees include Pedro Almodóvar, David Cronenberg, Nicole Kidman, Richard Peña, Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes.
The 52nd New York Film Festival runs Sept. 26 to Oct. 12.
