As part of an executive shuffle at A&E TV Networks, A&E executive Rob Sharenow has shifted to Lifetime, where he’ll become executive vp programming to fill the post vacated by JoAnn Alfano this month.
Also, History’s David McKillop has been named executive vp programming for A&E brands and Dirk Hoogstra, formerly vp development and programming at History, has been upped to senior vp programming, replacing McKillop.
The announcement came Thursday from Nancy Dubuc, president of Lifetime and History, and Bob DeBitetto, president of A&E Network and BIO Channel.
“These three executives exemplify the incredible bench strength we have within AETN. Over the last three years, each of them has played a key role in the double digit growth of our portfolio of brands,” said DeBitetto and Dubuc in a joint statement. “We are confident that they will soar in their respective new roles at Lifetime, A&E and History, leading some of the most creative teams working in media.”

Sharenow presided over unscripted programming at A&E and original programming at BIO. Both networks have seen ratings surges with such shows as Intervention (A&E) and William Shatner’s Raw Nerve (BIO).
During Sharenow’s seven-year tenure, A&E has experienced yearly ratings growth in the 25-54 demographic capping its best delivery in network history in 2010. At Lifetime, Sharenow will be charged with helping Dubuc get the network out of its ratings slump.
McKillop is a well-regarded creative executive whom Dubuc brought to History in 2007 to oversee the network’s original programming. During his tenure, History experienced its best ratings performance ever launching its top 10 series and top six specials of all time.
Hoogstra oversaw a team of programmers and developed and executive produced multiple History series and specials including American Pickers, Top Gear, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy, The Link and Top Shot.
