Seoul-based sales company Finecut has inked a slew of deals at this year’s European Film Market and Hong Kong Filmart for House of the Disappeared, One Step and Operation Chromite, among other titles.
House of the Disappeared, a mystery thriller directed by Lim Dae-woong (Horror Stories) starring Lost/Mistresses star Yunjin Kim and K-pop star Ok Taec-yeon has been pre-sold to major Asian territories including Japan (New Select), the Philippines (VIVA Communications), Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei (mm2 Entertainment), Taiwan (Long Shong International) and Vietnam (Red Pictures). The film presented by Peppermint&company (I Saw the Devil, New World) is currently in postproduction and will hit South Korean theaters on April 6.
One Step, also starring a K-pop star, Sandara Park, scored additional sales to Thailand (Studio Aromdi) as well as worldwide in-flight rights (Encore Inflight) in addition to its pre-sales to Intercontinental for HK and Macau, VIVA Communications for the Philippines and AV-JET for Taiwan. The music drama is directed by Juhn Jaihong (Poongsan) and produced by MCC Entertainment, which specializes in music-related content. One Step will be released on April 6 in Korea.
The Age of Shadows, a Korean local production from Warner Bros. directed by Kim Jee-woon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) and starring Song Kang-ho (Snowpiercer) and Gong Yoo (Train to Busan) has added sales deals for Japan (Aya Pro) as well as Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Splendid Film) in addition to its previous sales to multiple territories including North America, United Kingdom, Spain, Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong and Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Latin America, Portugal and Turkey.
Presented by Warner Bros. Korea, the period drama will have its theatrical opening in the U.K. on over 30 screens on March 24 via Soda Pictures. It is also set to open in Japan this summer followed by Germany during the latter half of the year.

Finecut’s 2016 Cannes title The Wailing, directed by Na Hong Jin (The Chaser, The Yellow Sea), scored additional sales to Alamode Film distribution for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and Studio Aromdi for Thailand. The mystery thriller had previously been sold to a slew of territories including North America, France, Spain, U.K., Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Italy, Latin America, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Hong Kong and Macau, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, Switzerland and China.
The Net, by Venice Golden Lion-winning filmmaker Kim Ki-duk, has secured additional sales to France (ASC Distribution); Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay (Distribution Company Sudamericana S.A.); Greece (Danaos Films); and Denmark (Rialto Film). Danaos Films will release the film on May 4 in Greece and ASC Distribution will release the film across France in July.
Misbehavior, the second film by up-and-coming director Kim Tae-yong (Set Me Free) produced by popular filmmaker Ryoo Seung-wan (Veteran) has sold to The Klockworx for Japan in addition to its previous sales to Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines. The film was released in January in Korea, and will open on April 7 in Taiwan.
The World of Us, which premiered in the 2016 Berlinale Generation K Plus competition section and won best feature film for children at the International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlin, enjoyed more sales including for worldwide in-flight (Encore Inflight), Sweden (Swedish Film AB) and Denmark (Fonden De Kobenhavnske / CPH Pix / Buster) in addition to its previous sales to Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ex-Yugoslavia, Turkey, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
