Focus Hires Longtime Weinstein Co. Publicity Exec Dani Weinstein

Focus Features has named longtime Weinstein Co. executive Dani Weinstein as its new executive vp publicity. 

The move comes a day after Focus’ Adriene Bowles jumped ship to join Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.

In her new role, Weinstein will oversee theatrical publicity efforts for the entire Focus slate, including all awards campaigns. Weinstein will be based in New York and report to Focus marketing president Jason Cassidy.

“Dani is a consummate professional who has an incredible track record for spearheading breakthrough publicity campaigns for specialty titles,” Cassidy said in a statement. “Her breadth of experience working with world-class filmmakers and talent and collaborative style of leadership makes her uniquely qualified. We’re thrilled that she is joining the Focus team.”

Weinstein is one of the most highly regarded executives in the awards sphere and boasts more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, with the last 17 years spent primarily with The Weinstein Co./Miramax. At TWC, she rose to president of publicity under Harvey Weinstein. During her tenure, she worked on campaigns for such films as The Imitation Game, The King’s Speech, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, Stephen Frears’ Philomena, Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York and The Aviator, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, Stephen Daldry’s The Reader, Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Michael Moore’s Sicko, Todd Haynes’ Carol, Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station and Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

Weinstein was involved with 15 best picture Oscar campaigns and was instrumental in the company’s 120 Oscar nominations and 23 wins. She began her career as an agent at Don Buchwald & Associates in the broadcast department.

Weinstein is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
