Fox has canceled tonight’s planned premiere party and red-carpet festivities for Parental Guidance, its new comedy starring Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei, in respect to the victims and victims’ families of Friday’s mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
“In light of the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Conn., we are canceling the red-carpet press event and the afterparty for the Parental Guidance premiere, scheduled today in downtown Los Angeles,” a Fox spokesman said. “The hearts of all involved with this film go out to the victims, their families, their community and our entire nation in mourning.”
It is the second premiere-related announcement in as many days: Yesterday, Paramount announced that Saturday’s planned premiere in Pittsburgh for the Tom Cruise starrer Jack Reacher had been postponed.
Fox also has taken measures on the TV front as well, replacing Sunday’s planned airings of Family Guy and American Dad in order to avoid any potential insensitivities with regard to the Newtown tragedy.
But Saturday Night Live will proceed as planned on NBC, a spokesperson for the show tells THR. It will air live tonight at 11:29 p.m. EST, with Martin Short hosting and Paul McCartney the scheduled musical guest.
