This marks the first time that two industry leaders have jointly received the honor since its inception in 1989.
Walden and Newman will be honored Oct. 7 at a gala dinner for international entertainment executives at the InterContinental Carlton Cannes.
Since becoming presidents of 20th Century Fox Television in 1999, Newman and Walden have delivered groundbreaking hits for the studio including five-time Emmy winner for best comedy series Modern Family and pop-culture touchstones like 24.
The two were named chairmen and CEOs of the Fox TV Group in July and have already made impressive strides at the network thanks to breakout first-year series like Empire, Gotham and The Last Man on Earth. Walden and Newman also recently launched the industry’s largest cable production unit, Fox 21 Television Studios, which produces Homeland, The Americans and the upcoming American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, among others.
“Dana Walden and Gary Newman form an inspirational leadership team in the entertainment sector, having propelled Fox to global success through the quality of its creative programming, built largely on their unique relationships with top talent,” said conference producer Reed MIDEM CEO Paul Zilk. “In recognition of their outstanding parallel careers and achievements, we are delighted to honor them as MIPCOM 2015 Personalities of the Year.”
They follow prolific producer Simon Cowell and DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg in receiving the title.
MIPCOM will run Oct. 5-8 in Cannes.
